I've never stayed in the Grand Californian, but it's pretty fancy, so if a luxury hotel is what you want, then that is the hotel for you. However, the Disneyland Hotel (I've stayed there) is also very nice, and great if you're going with family or younger kids. The Grand Californian has a private entrance to California Adventure for their hotel guests (though we were able to use it when we stayed in the Disneyland Hotel). Neither one is actually in the park (none of the hotels are), but both are located in Downtown Disney, which is just a short walk away from Disneyland's gate (and if you don't want to walk, you can take the monorail from Downtown Disney right into Disneyland).
