Normally, I'm usually the first to mention LA hotels. The previous posters mentioned some good ones, but I'm going to suggest a couple different ones:

The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel is another excellent choice. Yes, it's on the OC, but there's nothing like a beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean for romance.

Another suggestion is the Hotel Del Coronado. Sure, it's in San Diego, but there's just something more relaxing about San Diego County. It's just more laid back.

The Ritz hotels are wonderful, but they are also very formal. You might find the service a little too stuffy for genuine relaxation.

A good alternative is to go for one of the smaller luxury hotels in Beverly Hills or West Hollywood. These exclusive little places usually have all the amenities you'd expect of a five star hotel... but the service is more personal and your privacy is respected.

Hotels in this category include:

Bel-Air, The Luxe, Le Montrose, Le Parc, Avalon, and the famous (and most upscale of the lot) Beverly Hills hotel.

Marina del Rey : Ritz-Carlton.
Beverly Hills: Beverly Hills Hotel, Bel-Air Hotel, Penninsula Hotel

Not much romance in L.A. anyway...all fake...it's Hollywood. hahaha

There are a lot of good hotels in LA county.. the Ritz Carlton in Pasadena is nice because it's in a more secluded place, higher up in the mountains. It's pretty costly, but then again, most luxury hotels are. It's not uptight, but it's very pretty and quite nice. I'd recommend you check it out on tripadvisor.com, and in case you don't live in the area, remember that LA is very big place. Make sure you know exactly where you want to be, and then book a hotel in that particular area. Good luck!
