There are a some really nice ones, I prefer to stay in San Jose` del Cabo though (only 30 minutes away from downtown CSL, less crowded, less touristy). There are also a lot of really spectacular deals at the website I’m including in my source, it will be easier if you just do a little search for yourself.
Right downtown Cabo San Lucas, there are only small hotels, maybe 2 or 3 star.
Walking distance from downtown at the main beach Medano, there are very nice resorts.
ME by Melia San Lucas, Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos (blanco) and Pueblo Bonito Rosè.
Also walking distance but in the Pacific side are Finisterra, Playa Grande and Solmar.
Check my maps to have a good idea.
Enjoy Cabo
I stayed at the RUI on the coast, about 5-10 minutes from the downtown area, near CaboWabo, Hard Rock, etc. The cab, you would negotiate the price (maybe 20 pesos) to and from the hotel….It was beautiful, clean and accessible to all areas. Google for more info on the downtown luxury hotels.
Hola. Downtown Cabo does not have any luxury hotels. They would all rate 2-3 stars, for the 4-5 stars, you would have to stay out of town 5-10 minutes. The best is the Riu Palace, then the Melia, then the Villas, and then out on the corridor (another 10 minutes out) there are more such as the Palmilla, the Hilton, Dreams, the Marquis, the Westin, Cabo Real. Then about 20 minutes out of Cabo you are in the town of San Jose del Cabo and there are the Royal Solaris, the Crowne Plaza.
p.s.Ignore the travel agents that answer here. They have no idea where anything is. Its ridiculous.
As far as Cabo hotels go…there are lots to choose from…I’d consult a travel agent for a packaged deal (airfare/hotel/rental car)…but one word of caution… AVOID THE RIU PALACE HOTEL!!! DO NOT STAY, SWIM OR EAT AT THIS HOTEL!!!
I nearly died after contracting Typhoid Fever & Giardia there last August. The hotel manager (Jose) and staff were callous and unhelpful (I think they were upset that I threw up blood in the lobby…sorry Jose…I’m just trying NOT to die!!) They cared far more about keeping things quiet (so as NOT to upset other guests) than they did about my health.
The parent company for RIU is based in Spain and has hotels all over the world…try Googling them…see how many other people have become ill from making the mistake of choosing this All-Inclusive hotel chain!!
I love traveling in Mexico and have been to Cabo 6 or 7 times in the last 10 years…and had fun on every single visit!! I will be going back in September…but this time I’ll bring my own Ciprofloxacin…and I’ll be staying at Dreams intead of the RIU.
