What places to go in Japan if you are staying in one of the hotel in Narita Airport ?
JL asked:
I will be flying to Japan and will be stay there maybe for 2-3 days. I will be staying at the hotel in Narita Airport. So, my questions are:
1. Where to go and see? ( I’ve never been to JP, so I really dont know about the place and the transportation)
2. Good and affordable place to eat the local food?
3. Where to buy cute shirts or things for souvenir but affordable? ( I heard that everything in JP is really expensive though hehe….)
4. How much will you need to spend for 2-3 days in JP with a spouse? ( Not in luxury type though….just the affordable one)
Thank you so much for your help!

1, You can go and see Tokyo downtown. It takes 1 hour one way. But if you stay there 2-3 days, you will have time.
2, There is a lot of reasonable restaurants.
3, You can go to Shibuya or Harajuku which are Tokyo downtown.
4, If you include accommodation, you will need 60-70K yen ($600-700).

1. Tokyo is about an hour and 20 minutes aaway unless you take the skyliner which makes just over an hour. I recommend going there and checking out the Asakusa district with its temple complex; Ueno Park; Harajuku and Meiji Shrine, Akihabara, Shibuya, and Shinjuku for a look at modern japan.
Narita also has a temple worth checking out. On the JR Line you can go to Boso-no-mura which has a replicated street of an old Japanese town street along with traditional farm houses.
2. all those places are good for local food. For cheap - try noodle shops with the ticket machines and kaiten sushi (sushi on a conveyor belt).
3. In Harajuku down Omantosando Road is Oriental Bazaar which has a lot of affordable souvenirs. The temple district of Asakusa does as well.
4. Hard to say. Best to be on the safe side from $500-$1000 depending on what you do and where you eat.
