Why don’t hotel rooms have ceiling lights?

I travel on business very often and I have stayed in many types of hotels, from luxury to budget class. I have noticed that virtually all modern hotels (built in the last 30-40 years) have no ceiling light fixtures in their rooms, only desk lamps or floor lamps. Why is this?

Good idea… I’ve noticed that too.
Maybe too many people hit there heads while jumping on beds.

I would imagine to save on construction costs with regards to wiring and all that. Also lights on the floor are much easier to maintain.

because it costs too much more cash to wire up electricity to the ceilling, so they just use floor outlets

My guess is that it is less troublesome to change the light bulbs. It may also be that in most instances there is really no need to have a ceiling light. Since most guests are there for resting or sleeping the table lamps and floor lamp provide enough light for reading or using a laptop.
Just a guess.

Floor lamps and table lamps create a cozy atmosphere.

they usually do, right near the door and in the bathroom. The don’t in the “bedroom” area so that you can easily turn on and off the light from bed.

Lamps cost a lot less to install then a ceiling light and if the socket in the ceiling were to brake, it’s a lot harder to replace then a lamp is.

probably because replacing burned out light bulbs in ceiling fixtures requires the use of a ladder, and desk and floor lamps don’t.
