		<description>Lamps cost a lot less to install then a ceiling light and if the socket in the ceiling were to brake, it's a lot harder to replace then a lamp is.</description>

		<description>My guess is that it is less troublesome to change the light bulbs.  It may also be that in most instances there is really no need to have a ceiling light.  Since most guests are there for resting or sleeping the table lamps and floor lamp provide enough light for reading or using a laptop.
