ARTNEWS 3 asked: Hi
I live in Brooklyn and my parents are coming for a visit from Bulgaria. I was wondering if you can recommend any Hostels or 2 star cheap hotels which DO look good and are not a gross room with a sink in the middle and roaches coming out of it. My parents won’t care about great luxury but i also can’t put them in a hipster style dump. Any ideas?

Maeve asked: I’ve been with my boyfriend for 2 years, living together for 6 months. Next month he is taking me to Vegas. I’ve never been there before. I found out that we are staying at Paris Hotel, in a luxury suite. It’s supposed to be a very romantic hotel, and I’m told the top of the Eiffel Tower is a popular place to pop the question. We are in our early 30’s and most of our friends are married or engaged now…so I’m wondering if he will ask me. We don’t really talk about marriage much - he’s kinda old fashioned in that way.
What do you think my chances are of getting engaged?

Amy O. asked: My dog goes to a private elite school where he is trained on how to behave properly and actually gets a real education. They teach him the ABC’s, which means he can actually read and say a few words such as hello, he can also do math! Not just that, he has his own dog car that he drives with a cute little dog license. I’m able to afford him many luxuries which consist of him going to a dog hotel when I’m away, or if he wants to get busy there is a wide varirty of pure bred female dogs that he may choose any that he likes to mate with. He also has his own park and minature dog mansion right next to my mansion. I even bought him a phone if he ever feels like calling MAMA. He is so trained that he knows how to use a phone and can even walk himself.

andalucia asked: I’m looking for cheap lodging (but clean and safe… just not luxury or up to “American” tourist/hotel standards) in a hostel or pension for a 4-7 days in Vallarta. I’d prefer something near where I can catch a water taxi to Los Arcos for snorkeling or to Yelapa for day trip(s). Would this hostel have to be near the marina (north of the airport) or do water taxis leave from south of the Malecon also (so I could stay in the older, less-expensive part of PV)?

marnefirstinfantry asked: Two points of interest:
1…After a New York City taxi struck Jessica Malionek’s dog, Mojo, flinging him 30 feet in the air, she spent $4,000 for veterinarians to perform emergency treatment and then life-saving surgeries on her beloved dog. “It was like they were treating a person,” Malionek says.
These days veterinary medicine can be every bit as sophisticated as human health care — and the costs reflect it. Animal lovers spent $19 billion on veterinary care in 2001, the most recent figure available, up from $7.2 billion a decade earlier, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. And per-visit costs are skyrocketing: Between 1991 and 2001, the average cost of a veterinary visit for a dog nearly doubled, from $50 to $99. For cats, costs rose even more precipitously, jumping by 107%.
2…NEW YORK (Aug. 29) - Leona Helmsley’s dog will continue to live an opulent life, and then be buried alongside her in a mausoleum. But two of Helmsley’s grandchildren got nothing from the late luxury hotelier and real estate billionaire’s estate.
Helmsley left nothing to two of Jay Panzirer’s other children - Craig and Meegan Panzirer - for “reasons that are known to them,” she wrote.
But no one made out better than Trouble, who once appeared in ads for the Helmsley Hotels, and lived up to its name by biting a housekeeper.
“I direct that when my dog, Trouble, dies, her remains shall be buried next to my remains in the Helmsley mausoleum,” Helmsley wrote in her will.
